Walking Tour Continued While you're up here, peek into the classrooms on the second floor of Murdoch Hall. Kindergarten through upper elementary meet here on Sunday mornings as part of the church's QUUEST program. The program includes the following rooms, which each cater to various ways of learning: the Incredible Edible Lab, the 13th Street Playhouse, the Kaleidoscope, and the Rhythm & Roll. Go back to the chapel and down the stairs to the first floor. Leave the church through the door in front of you. You are now in Allen Courtyard. Before enjoying the courtyard, notice that there is a door on your right under the outside stairs. This is the Charles Dickens Room, named in honor of the famous English novelist and Unitarian. It is used as a preschool religious education room. |
The
Allen Courtyard
is named in honor of Richard and Lois Allen. Dick Allen was the
minister of the church from 1980 to 1994, and Lois was the choir
director for much of that time. There is a plaque in the
courtyard proclaiming this a nuclear free zone. As you go toward the large double doors to re-enter the church, you will see on your right the Memorial Garden with a granite marker listing the names of those whose ashes have been scattered here.
