Frequently Asked Questions (Continued)
5. If my child does not separate
well, can he or she stay with me during the service? Children are always welcome during our service. We have regular Family Sundays where all the youth attend church. Worship folders with activities are available for children who wish to sit with their parents.
6. Where's the best place to park? We encourage our guests to use the parking spaces closest to the driveway entrance off Dewey. Handicapped parking is available at various locations throughout our parking lot. There are two ramps into the building on the west side of our facility. The bulk of our Sunday morning parking is along 13th and Dewey Streets, in the parking lots on the north side of 13th, and in the vacant lot across Dewey in good weather. |
You can enter the building from the courtyard or through the sanctuary doors. You will find guest books to sign and greeters to assist you.
7.
Who decides what happens in the worship service? First Unitarian enthusiastically embodies Freedom of the Pulpit wherein our parish minister, the Reverend Mark Christian, is charged with the responsibility for ministering to the congregation through sermons and teachings in worship (other people sometimes lead worship and preach, but ultimately this responsibility is given to our called minister). We are also committed to Freedom of the Pew wherein no member is expected to agree with everything said in our worship service. Reverend Christian regularly consults with Director of Music, Beverly McLarry, our Worship Committee, and other staff members about our worship experience.
