Beginning the journey
to sustainable living is not hard. To help you get started, we've
prepared a few suggestions to
lower your impact on the earth.
While individual steps to protect
and improve our environment are important, these efforts alone are not
sufficient. Environmental progress requires collaborative work to
address the deep-seeded and systemic problems affecting the health of
the living planet. Work in our faith communities is an important part of
that healing.
Some of the work includes:
- formal, multi-week courses on issues
like global warming.
- occasional Sunday morning forums (at
10 a.m.) on ecology-oriented topics of current interest.
- fundraising events to purchase
energy-saving items, such as energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs for
the church.
- a collection system at the church
for recyclable items, including printer and copier cartridges that
are traded for recycled copier paper.
- the Oklahoma City "Adopt-A-Street"
program by cleaning litter from nearly a mile of NE 13th St adjacent
to our church property.
- a section in our church library
devoted to ecology and a bulletin board for the education of church
member and visitors.
-
field trips to educate and demonstrate
sustainable living techniques and principles.
