Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee

The congregation of First Unitarian has, over the course of several years, participated in the process of creating the Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee.

We are a part of building the Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee because we - the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma, along with other metro area congregations and nonprofits - want to to engage with business leaders and public officials around the challenges Oklahoma City families and individuals face. We want to move beyond social services, issue-based volunteerism, and "charity" to help shape the future for families in the community. We hear the stories of how our congregation's members live day to day, and our democratic and faith tradition calls us to respond with others to those challenges from a stand of social justice.

The UU Action Team is a group of First Unitarian leaders who are coordinating these efforts both within our congregation and with the larger sponsoring committee.
